paint brush tool style changing

When I draw with the paint brush tool weird hatched lines apear instead of the brush style I selected, but once I lift my stylus it changes to the brush style i had selected. I'v tried changing the brush style and while it says theres that brush style is selected the hatched lines still apear. I'v attempeted changing the spacing  and closing the program neither worked.
