Parenting causes layer to be deleted

Hi I'm rather new to adobe animate. I'm trying to make the leg layer a child of the main body layer, but when I do that it just- deletes the child completely. It does this to every single layer I parent to the body. This does not happen if I parent anything else, I can parent the two legs to each other and it does it fine.

I thought it was a glitch so I updated my animate to the most recent version and restarted my computer, but it is still doing this.

Do I just have to delete the body layer and reanimate things x_x
