Printing questions

I'm really starting to think I picked the wrong project to transition to AS3 .. sorry for all these questions.

Is it possible to print an object from the library w/o loading it on the stage?
Can you scale an object and/or rotate it to fit 8.5 x 11 paper?

I have a project that is set up for tablets .. so the stage is horizontal and about 1024px wide. I need to set it up to print the content on 8.5 x 11. I'm starting to think I have to reformat every page to the right size and print them that way. Meaning double the work, double the content .. this can't be the only solution.
