you fla is probably corrupt and is likely unsalvageable.  but there is a chance it can be repaired by:

    1. copy the fla and rename the copied fla to a rar

    2. open the rar in winrar

    3. repair the rar with winrar

    4. rename the rapaired rar to a fla

    5. try to open the repaired fla in animate.

that usually fails, but sometimes works.

and in the future save your fla files periodically with version numbers appended.  eg, project1 should be saved as project1_v000.fla, project1_v001.fla, project1_v002.fla etc so you never encounter the problem of an entire project needing to be restarted from the beginning and wasting hours of time.

    Maybe,....
Your .fla was originally authored on a computer with a different operating system. Try opening it on the computer it was created.
Your .fla might have been made with a different version of Flash. Make sure you are opening it in the same version of Flash.
Your .fla might have been corrupted. If you look in the folder and it says the file size is something like 7kb, then your .fla file is seriously corrupted. Hopefully you have backups if this is the case.

I wish I could help, but I honestly this link:
