Purple boxes on my objects when I select them?

Hi, Im new to adobe animate and I'm trying to create a model for my assignment. When I try to select my drawn object and group it, it doesnt group it but comes up with many different boxes for my object

 

What do i do?

    Use the black arrow tool (shortcut key V) to select, not the white arrow tool (Subselect tool).
