Questions about my Animate project files

I just saw the email about how animate will be discontinued. This is very disappointing. Animate is the main reason I use adobe. What worries me most is how the email mentions losing access to my project files in 2027. Does this just mean files that are shared through creative cloud or will I actually be unable to access my animate project files? Most of what I do is centered around this application and most if not all my assets are in animate project files.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

that statement is nonsense. files on your computer (and elsewhere under your control) will remain.  the ability to open fla files will depend on whether you have a working version of animate.

the ability to create new projects and republish old ones will depend on having a working version of animate that’s compatible.

I also use Adobe Animate to create html5 programmatic banners, Adobe currently doesn’t seem to be supplying a solution. Adobe please respond, I was sent to this thread after asking to make a complaint on live chat

Very disappointed in Adobe. I’ve used Animate on and off for over 20 years.

Definitely needs a clarification from Adobe directly, since their End-of-Life post both mentions that the software will continue to work if it’s already downloaded, but also “Access to your Animate files and project data will end on the date that support ends.”

Can’t understand how both could be true -- the software still launches, but can’t open files?

And while it does say “Animate will continue to work”, it doesn’t clarify if that’s true after the March 2027 cutoff or not -- since it also says “application access” will end at that point.  Does “access” mean that we can’t download it, or when we launch it will it say we no longer have access to the software?

That’s what I would normally assume -- no idea why Adobe would even bring up losing “access to your Animate files” into the discussion then.

If it’s indeed nonsense, then they should remove that statement from the FAQ 😆  Or they need to clarify what they mean by that, in what scenarios do we lose “access”.

we’ll all be ok as long as we don’t need to reinstall animate.  but eventually, reinstall will be needed and we’ll be out of luck at that point.

Hi Kglad, thanks for your years of help on this Discussion forum.

This is a nightmare of immense proportion.  I have three applications built in Animate that are my bread and butter for income.  I’ve built a complete business around them.  It looks like for me (non-enterprise user) Animate will shut down on March 1, 2027.  I’ll essentially have “lost my job.”

I think the people in charge at Adobe need to realize this is stripping people of their ability feed their family, get health insurance, and more.  It’s not as simple as closing down an application they feel is outdated.  This is going to affect real human lives.

If you have connections at Adobe, can you possibly indicate:
    1) Who at Adobe I can write to, to petition against Animate’s discontinuation?
    2) Any possibility that Animate could be bought by another company, to keep it going?
    3) If there’s any possibility of having an installable version of Animate that we can have after March 2027, just to use the application (I don’t need tech support)?

Again, thanks for your years of support.

despite my adobe employee contacts none of them could affect this decision.  i suspect the employees most involved with animate are probably hurt more by this maneuver than most of us.
