Recent files list in Animate

Is it possible to shut off the list of all the recently worked files when I open Animate?

You can reset your preferences:
In the Preferences dialog box, click Reset to Defaults or press and hold Control+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Animate.

Any idea how to add characters like a degree sign in a text object. I used to (on my windows machine) hold down ALT key then hit 2, 4, 8. doesn't work in text field. Only way now is open action script dialogue window, ALT 248, then cut and paste into text field. Don't know why they took that capability away.
