Select tool now only shows bounding box

Before when I selected an object, it showed a white spotted outline over the whole thing, and you could delete specific parts, stretch, etc., but now when I select things. It just shows a blue bounding box. How can I fix this?

    Either double-click to enter for editing or select the object and choose Modify > Break Apart.

    You may need to break apart multiple times, depending on how many levels of wrapping you have.

    Oh that worked. It seems like every object I create is somehow grouped to something else by default?

    This 'grouping' is called Object Drawing and is a mode that can be enabled and disabled via a toggle button in the toolbar, called Object Drawing. You can also assign a shortcut to it.
