Shape Hints disappear while moving them and do not change color once set.

I'm very green and trying to use shape hints for the first time. The shape tween feature works as described, but adding shape hints does nothing. I'm able to add them to the first key frame, arrange them, find them in the second key frame, and place them again. However, they never change to any color other then red and are not visible while moving them. I tried this process with simple shapes that are not grouped and I made sure snap to object was on, and I've keeped them in order (ABC), but no dice. I looked for the answer all over the inter web with no luck. If anyone has thoughts on how to resolve this issue your advise would be welcomed. I'm using Animate version 21.0.2 on macOS Big Sur version 11.1
