Speeding up website loading

I have created a new website with a video gallery in AS3 and am trying to speed up the loading of the page for this as currently it pauses before appearing on the page. I have tried to get all the movies down to as low a size as possible but still it doesn't fly in straight away.

The video gallery is loaded via an external swf so would this have anything to do with it at all?

The web address is as follows and the sections taking time to appear are 'portfolio' and 'websites etc.'

Any help would be much appreciated.

You landing page is more than 1MB, portfolio page is 9.5 MB - of course it takes noticeable time for them to load. There is not much you can do as far as progressive flvs are concerned if you want to preload them. Load would be much more streamlined if you used images of the first frames for video thumbnails and started playback only on roll over.
