Stage parameters disappear inside symbol (free floats in infinite witness)

hello,im verry ne to animate cci'm trying to create a parallaxing background following this seemingly simple tutorial on youtube ***** How to Animate Parallaxing (3D pan effect) - YouTube ****I am now at the stage of converting the foreground layers into a symbol in order to animate them, but once i enter the symbol to do this the parameters of the stage disappear unlike in the video, the objects are still together as I have aligned and arranged  them on scene1 but now they are free floating on an seemingly endless white space with no grey contrasting off stage. the context of the stage is integral to the parallaxing effect itself, have i missed something on this video? has he not mentioned something that is assumed the viewer should know? please helpcheers,bill

Symbols sit on top of shapes that are in the same layer. The thin in the video that you missed is that he is creating more layers, and that way he can rearrange the symbols into the right order.

So, when you have made a shape be a symbol, create a new layer, Cut the symbol, and select the new layer, then Edit/Paste in Place. You can drag the layers up and down to change their order.
