Symbol shifts when parenting

Question

Hi. I’m trying to link my symbols so that they will move accordingly. All my pivot points are in the right place, but for example, when I try to rig the foot to the lower leg, the symbol shifts and I can’t move it back into place (see images below.) If I click on the foot layer, the symbol just turns into some thick line. How can I fix this?

The way the linking should be.
If I parent the lower leg to the foot.
If I click on the foot layer.

move your objects so their registration pt matches where you want the pivot pt
