translating an animatoin accidentally made in the scene into a symbol

so i want to put my walk cycle animation into a seperate symbol but i accidentally animated it in the actual scene. somehow it doesnt work copy and pasting frames from the scene into a symbol, as well as copying all my layers into the symbol to make a complete replicate of the animation. thanks for helping out:)
