Using mask to animate drawing a line

Hi all,

I understand this youtube tutorial "https://youtu.be/252kA6UkhMo" is from years ago. I'm tyring to implement the concept of masking to animate drawing a dotted line in animate 2023. It works in the editor but when I go back to the main scene timeline and lock the mask and the layer below it, they both disappear. Also, when I play the animation on the browser, all I get is white blank page. Please see attached youtube video, the video I recorded and the screenshot.

    I reached out to @n. tilcheff for assistance. I sent him the file and explained the issue, within less than 30 minutes he sent me the file back with the solution. Then I asked for additional features which he incorporated into the file and sent back to me. I can't remember how many days I spent researching this issue to no avail. I'm glad I checked this forum.

     

    Thank you @n. tilcheff for your time and help. Also, thank you to everyone else here who spent the time trying to help me. I would never have figured this out myself.

    I'm uploading the file to OneDrive so others can benefit in case they run into similar situation.

      You can use shapes and shape tweening using the shape tips.

          it looks like you're using motion tween. It would help if you tried using Classic tween like he is the tutorial/

              Thank you for the response.

              When inside the symbol editor it works "as per the video I uploaded" but when in the main scene timeline, once I lock both layers, they dissapear. Would you like me to send you the file?

              again, what do you see when testing in animate, control>test movie>in animate (as3)/in browser (canvas).
