What tools and software should I use to create this animation.

Sure I understand, it's a vague title. I'm mainly a video editor and graphic designer. So to venture into 3D and animation is new ground, Adobe has me covered suite wise. Though I'm confused, of where to focus and produce the content. 
My current project, will have me create a 3D terrain map of a local area. Then to insert objects such as an aircraft, have them follow a particular path.
Intention, where I could animate a moving camera, in the 3d space. 
To demonstrate different perspective and event scenarios as short clips of where said aircraft could have gone direction wise for a documentary I'm working on. 
What tools would be best to develop this on?
