Why is my cursor off in the action script panel?

When I'm entering scripting in the action script panel my cursor starts to lag behind by about three characters; the cursor shows in the middle of a word, but the text I'm entering adds on the end of the word. Also, some characters near the ends of words are only partially showing, or not showing at all. I'm relatively new to action script so any help would be appreciated, though this seems like it might be some sort of program bug?
