Question

A7Riii raw files with older version of ACR

Sorry if I am repeating a previous topic, but I am visually impaired and legally blind, and can not see websites real good

I purchased a new Sony a7riii, and would like to shoot RAW, but my Mac and photoshop and ACR are very old. Mac OS is 10.10.5 and ACF is 6.6.0.

is there any type of workaround to open these new files on older software and hardware? Or am I forced to buy a new computer and software to be compatible with my new camera?

Ralph

Which Mac do you have? Even a mid-2007 iMac can be upgraded to OS X 10.11, for example.

The A7RIII is 42MP and from my experience with a 50MP Canon, you can't realistically edit RAW files that large anyway without a reasonably current computer.

I picked up a refurb M1 Mac mini with 16GB of RAM for US$800 last summer, direct from Apple. It does just fine with current software and large RAW files.

Update your old version of Camera Raw or download the free DNG converter:

Umfortunately, my iMac will not be able to upgrade to Big Sur, as OS 10.10.5 is the highest version I can go on my iMac. I can not upgrade the DNG converter .  I was hoping not to have to buy a new Mac at this point, so was hoping for a work around for new Sony RAW files on my old Mac operating system.

Can your old iMac run Sony’s software?
