AI Noise Reduction added spots?!

Photoshop 2024; Mac OS 14.2

Hi there, probably user error but this is what happened:

I spent what seemed like ages healing lots of sensor dust spots from a NEF file in ACR via the normal Healing Tool, then later I decided to use Reduce Noise with AI, that done I noticed spots in the sky when I was applying a tone curve, I investigated by Visualising Spots and was horrified to discover another rash of new spots that required me to heal them all again. What did I do wrong?

Ideally Denoise should be applied first before any editing.

However, that said, you might be able to recover by first making a copy of your edited NEF file.

Open them both at the same time in ACR.

Revert the copy back to default settings - that will remove all healing and edits.

Apply denoise to that image.

Finally copy all edits from the original file to the newly created DNG file.

Many thanks Erik, I did wonder if it was an issue to do with the sequence with which I made the enhancements. Now I know I will apply that first.

Is there a tutorial on the ideal sequence of adjustments for RAW files in ACR?

As for the ideal sequence for editing RAW files, I think most folk develop their own preferences to be honest. Personally I don't find it makes any difference to the finished product whatever order I perform edits but Denoise first seems to be the order of the day. That does of course produces a new DNG file and the original file is left untouched.
