Camera Raw 17.1 no longer supports the HEIC format?

I'm trying to open HEIC files in Camera Raw 17.1 to edit HEIC images captured with an iPhone 15.

I have Microsoft's HEIF and HEVC extensions installed on my PC. I'm not interested in third-party applications to convert HEIC files to JPG. I would like to edit the images in their original format before doing any conversion.

Camera Raw 17.1 preferences no longer show the File Handling > JPEG/HEIC option

I don't believe this has ever been available in the Windows builds of Camera Raw. It is only available in Mac.  Have you seen it available before in a Windows installation? If so, approximately what version?

Hi Rikk,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm not sure if I've touched these settings before. What prompted me to try changing the settings to HEIC format was the fact that Lightroom was very slow (specifically with regard to HEIC format). Then I tried using Camera Raw to edit these images, but I can't open them (in Camera Raw).

I used my iPhone to capture images in RAW format and ended up with HEIC format files. I've edited images in HEIC format in the past without any major problems. This time, I can't.

I got around the problem by converting the files to DNG in Lightroom. The DNG files retained the edits already made and I was able to move on.
