Camera Raw 18.4: Pressing "\" (Before/After) while in Profile Corrections resets all develop settings

Pressing the Before/After shortcut (\) while the Profile Corrections panel is active causes Adobe Camera Raw to reset all develop settings instead of displaying a before/after comparison.

This behavior only occurs while the Profile Corrections panel is active. The Before/After shortcut works correctly in all other editing panels.

Environment

  • Adobe Camera Raw: 18.4
  • Operating System: Windows 11
  • Camera Models:
    • Sony A6500
    • Sony A6700
  • Lens:
    • Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary
  • RAW format: Sony ARW

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open any Sony ARW file.
  2. Apply multiple edits (Exposure, Contrast, Color, Curve, etc.).
  3. Open the Profile Corrections panel.
  4. Enable Use Profile Corrections.
  5. Press the \ key (Before/After).

Expected Result

The Before/After view should temporarily compare the image before and after the current edits while preserving all develop settings.

Actual Result

All develop settings are reset to their default values, including Lens Profile Corrections. The image returns to the original RAW appearance.

Additional Information

  • The issue is reproducible with both Sony A6500 and Sony A6700 RAW files.
  • The Before/After shortcut functions normally in every other editing panel.
  • The issue appears to be specific to the Profile Corrections panel when Use Profile Corrections is enabled.
  • Reproducibility: 100%.
     

Regression suspicion: The issue appears to be related to the Before/After preview state management when the active panel is Profile Corrections, as the same shortcut behaves correctly in all other Camera Raw panels.

    Hey,  ​@jpopovski. Thanks for bringing this up. In my attempts to recreate this, I couldn't get the results you've shared.

    Do you have a specific set of edits before you go to the Profile browser? What specific Profile do you apply? Adaptive Color, or any other?

     

    Could you record your workflow in a video and share it with us?

    Thanks for the detailed report.

    One thing that would be worth checking is whether this is limited to Sony ARW files or if it also occurs with RAW files from other camera manufacturers. If the behavior is the same across different file types, that would help determine whether it’s a Camera Raw issue rather than something specific to Sony files.

    It would also be interesting to know if the same behavior occurs when opening the file through Photoshop’s Camera Raw, or if it’s limited to your current workflow.

     

    For what it’s worth, I’ve edited quite a few Canon RAW files in Camera Raw and have never come across this behavior, so it would be interesting to see if this is specific to Sony ARW files or something else.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I can now confirm that the issue is not limited to Sony ARW files.

    I reproduced the exact same behavior with:

    • Sony A6500 (ARW)
    • Sony A6700 (ARW)
    • Canon 600D (CR2)

    Also, my workflow already uses Camera Raw directly from Photoshop (I open RAW files through Photoshop, which launches Camera Raw), so the issue is occurring in Photoshop's Camera Raw plugin.

    The bug remains 100% reproducible and only occurs when the Profile Corrections panel is active and the \ (Before/After) shortcut is pressed.

      That’s interesting. The Canon test rules out what I initially suspected, so it looks much less likely to be related to a specific camera or RAW format.

      Since you’ve now narrowed it down to the Profile Corrections panel, I wonder if the / shortcut is somehow triggering a refresh of that panel instead of a normal Before/After preview. Hopefully that’s enough for the Camera Raw team to reproduce it.
