Question

Camera Raw 9.1.1 doesn't recognise lens name from DNG converted from Z9 NEF files

The new Nikon Z9 uses newly-developed RAW (NEF) file formats that Camera Raw 9.1.1 doesn't recognise.  So I have to go to a Win10 PC, run DNG Converter 14.1 to convert my NEF files to DNG, then back to a Win7 PC to open them in Camera Raw 9.1.1 (I don't want to 'upgrade' to Win10, or 'cloud' software of any sort).

But when opening the DNG files in Camera Raw, it won't perform lens corrections using the inbuilt lens profiles, even though using a lens that *is* recognised when I develop (unconverted) NEF files from my D750 camera.  I inspected the Z9 DNG files (plain text portion), and they *do* include the lens name (twice!), but Camera Raw doesn't recognise it.

Can anything be done to 'fix' this issue?

Camera Raw 9.1.1 is probably too old to understand the built-in lens profiles from Nikon Z cameras.

Lenses for your D750 do not have built-in profiles, but use profiles provided by Adobe in Camera Raw.

I think the only fix is to upgrade your OS to Windows 10, and to subscribe to the Photography Plan.

Windows 7 has been unsupported for almost a year now, and by using it you are exposing yourself to security risks.

I was also reluctant to upgrade to Windows 10, but when I finally did, I was pleasantly surprised, and it's been running for two years now, without any issues whatsoever.

The term "Creative Cloud" is misleading. The software is installed locally on your computer, and cloud storage is optional.

You can continue working in the exact same way as you are with CS6 now.

Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements.

Per,
Thanks for that info, but it still hasn't solved the puzzle in my head (which is undoubtedly due to my ignorance of raw formats and how Camera Raw processes them)...
Let's take for example my Nikkor 28-300mm/3.5-5.6 lens. If I use it on my D750 (shooting NEF, of course), I can convert a NEF from that camera with either DNG Converter v11.1.0.112 (in Win7) and with v14.1 (in Win10), and back in Win7 when I open either of those DNG files with Camera Raw 9.1.1, it recognises and corrects the lens.
But if I use the very same lens on my Z9 (with an FTZII) and convert the resulting NEF (in Win10) with DNG Converter v14.1, back in Win7 Camera Raw now doesn't recognise or correct that lens. Same lens, same converter software, just a different camera. Why is that?
And I understand what you're saying about the Adobe 'cloud' software, but the fact remains it incurs a monthly charge (so presumably must have a 'net' connection once a month at least to check my subscription is up-to-date?), which this cash-poor retiree (and not a pro photographer) does not want to incur.

I don't know why the 28-300 isn't recognized when used on the Z9.

Are you able to select the lens manually in the Optics panel (or whatever it's called in CS6) ?

If so, you can create a preset that contains just the lens correction.

When using Creative Cloud software, it will connect to Adobe servers once a month to verify your subscription.

But there is a 99 day offline mode grace period plus the remaining days of the current month.
