Question

Camera RAW freezes PC after a while

As the title says, after a while of using Camera RAW my entire notebook freezes to the point that even the sound remains in an infinite loop of a few thousandths of a second.

When this happens I can't fix it in any way other than holding down the power button on my notebook, thus losing all the editing I've done.

This problem appears faster when I am using auto-detect masks (subject, sky, background, objects)

I'm writing this after opening a photo and doing only two automatic masks, first I selected a luminance range and then I wanted to automatically select the subject and this happened

I had just opened Photoshop and didn't open anything other than that one image I was working on.

My notebook is an Asus X542ur, it has an Intel i5 7200u, an Nvidia GeForce 930mx, 20gb of ram, 1TB SSD, and Windows 10 Enterprise

I've already tried reinstalling, changing settings, switching to older versions of Camera RAW and Photoshop, etc etc

The Nvidia GeForce 930mx is eight years old, has only 2 GB RAM, and doesn't support DirectX 12 properly (it has feature level 11_2).

Most operations in Camera Raw use GPU acceleration, and several (like masking) are carried out entirely by the GPU.

You need a modern GPU with at least 8 GB RAM, and DirectX feature level 12_2. I have the RTX 3060 which has 12 GB RAM, and works quite well on my desktop computer.

If you're going to buy a new computer, consider getting a desktop.

Laptops will always be slower, they have to throttle down the hardware components to prevent overheating.
