Question

Camera Raw new shortcuts problem (rotation)

In the latest version of Camera Raw, some keyboard shortcuts have changed. Previously, you could rotate an image simply by pressing L.

Now, however, they’ve switched to the combinations Ctrl + ] and Ctrl + [.

I can no longer rotate the image because, to type square brackets on my Italian keyboard layout, I have to press Alt + è or Alt + +. Alternatively, Ctrl + Alt + è or Ctrl + Alt + +.

The rotation doesn’t respond to the command. What should I do? It seems it’s also impossible to change the Camera Raw shortcuts.

thanks

Yeah, this needs to be fixed. This is a deal breaker. The path to no more adobe products in my business is short now, there are better alternatives to most of the adobe apps. I’m pretty sure this is broken for all ISO-keyboard countries. This vibe coded BS needs to go. We don’t need two buttons to open the masking tool! Rotate is a thing you do all the time.

Thank you, I’m hoping for a solution; this is disrupting my keyboard workflow

I Just switched back to the previous version. The changed key assignments are unacceptable.

And if you should decide to allow custom key assignments keep in mind that if a user can have another keyboard where s/he can not produce certain keystrokes. Example: On my german keyboard I can not type Ctrl [, since I have to press ctrl-Alt to get to the [.

With version 18.7, several long-established shortcuts changed: the Radial Filter moved from J to R, and the Linear Gradient from G to L, while G now opens the new Grid view. After years of muscle memory, this breaks workflows, especially for those of us culling and editing large shoots under time pressure.

New features are welcome, but changing existing shortcuts without warning isn't. Please add an option to customize keyboard shortcuts in Camera Raw, as Photoshop and Lightroom Classic offer, so we can restore our familiar setup or adapt it to our needs.

Thank you!

As a quick fix you can use AutoHotkey to map the keys in ACR only.

This is a very strange change indeed, especially considering how [  ] are not seperate keys on many layouts, rendering the shortcuts unusable. I’m guessing this is a mistake, as a gradient mask shortcut shouldn’t replace the basic function of rotating images?

i dont know… It’s likely that with the latest Camera Raw update, they’ve introduced new features and revised all the shortcuts

You could simply use the tools in the Crop Panel:

Why does Adobe suddenly change established shortcuts after years?

The Radial Filter used to be on J for years, and now it has suddenly been changed to R. What is the point of changing something like this?

I use hundreds of radial filters every single day, and of course I press the shortcut completely automatically without even thinking about it. That is exactly what shortcuts are supposed to be for. Changes like this unnecessarily destroy a workflow that has been built up over years.

If you really feel the need to change long-established shortcuts, then at least finally add the option to customize shortcuts in Camera Raw.

Please stop changing established workflows for no real reason. For people who use Camera Raw professionally every day, this is incredibly frustrating. 😡
