Changes stored in xmp files not recognized by previous Bridge version

Camera raw (v11.4) changes made in Bridge (v9.1) seems to be lost when opened in the previous Bridge version (v8.1).

Lost all my editing work. Is there no downwards compatibility between old & new software versions?
