Color mismatch between Camera Raw 16.1 and Photoshop 2024
I've spent the last two days in chat and remote control with Adobe support, without coming to terms with anything. The problem is this: I noticed, on a very underexposed photo (NEF file from Nikon D850, Adobe RGB 1998 color space), that in Camera Raw it was displayed in a certain way and, when developed and opened in Photoshop, the picture had softer and less contrasty shadows. All attempts to replace and customize the color profiles were useless (and in any case they would have been, since I cannot work on custom profiles that are not RGB 1998 or sRGB); I worked with very patient Adobe agents who tried everything, working remotely on my computer, noticing that the problem also arose in Lightroom and in Camera Raw used as a simple filter in Photoshop. We know that Camera Raw and Lightroom work on a different gamut than Photoshop, Bridge, etc. The two profiles, on my computer, since a week or so, simply don't match anymore. But when you have to work hard on shadows and blacks the problem becomes unbearable. After exhausting hours of watching my mouse travel from one part of the screen to another, controlled from who knows where in the world, I tried to suggest to the agent a downgrade of Camera Raw, which was strongly advised against.
But, after thanking and closing the chat, I did it anyway, as I was really desperate. Downgrade to version 14. PROBLEM SOLVED. Everything works perfectly. Maybe it's just an incompatibility with my combination of computer, video card, calibration, monitor, etc (iMac Pro, 3,2GhZ Xeon W 8 core, Radeon Pro Vega 56 8GB, 64GB RAM DDR4, OS Sonoma 14.3, display calibrated through X-Rite i1 Display Pro). Maybe it's a bug instead. If so, know that you can replace Camera Raw with the previous version by simply installing it over it.
