Defaults in 12.2 for iPhone HEIC

I'm following the new method for setting defaults, checking "Use defaults specific to camera model" in Preferences->Raw Defaults. This worked fine for an ARW file from a Sony camera. It does not for HEIC images from an Iphone X. When the HEIC image is open, Camera Raw's dialog says "No raw images open".

Is it now impossible to set default behavior for converting iPhone HEIC images? It used to work.
