Question

Last ACR just dont open [bug]

one PC two OS, two different PS ver, and same results!
ACR from ver 18.5 18.6 18.7 stop working! it just not open...
install today new 18.7 nothing change, uninstall and back on 18.4.1 the last ver that works.

win10 PS2019+ACR18.7
win11 PS2027+ACR18.7

p.s. I checked whether this was a compatibility issue or something related to new library or runtime files, but I found that it isn’t. The problem is with the Camera Raw.8bi file itself. Simply replacing it with a newer version causes the ACR to stop launching, the same is true in reverse: if I take a freshly installed newer version and replace only its Camera Raw.8bi file from 18.14.1, while leaving all the other libraries untouched keeping the newer versions, ACR launches again and works normally.

    Hi @sa_4083,

Thanks for providing the Camera Raw log and for testing this across the different versions.

Also, thanks for clarifying that you are using the installers.

I noticed one detail that I’d like to clarify before escalating this.

The Windows 10 log reports Windows build 17763, which is an older Windows 10 release. Current Camera Raw versions require Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 23H2 or later, so that Windows 10 installation is below the current supported OS requirement. Your CPU, RAM, and RTX 4060 GPU otherwise meet the Camera Raw requirements.

Since you also reported the same behavior on Windows 11, I’d like to focus on that environment, as it may meet the current requirements. The Windows 11 log you previously shared appears to contain no diagnostic data.

    Could you please provide:

    1. Your exact Windows 11 version/build.
    2. A fresh Camera Raw 18.7 log from Windows 11 after reproducing the failure.
    3. A Camera Raw 18.4.1 log from the same Windows 11 & Windows 10 installation, where you say Camera Raw opens successfully. This will give us a working/failing comparison on the same supported environment.
    4. With 18.7 installed, please check whether adobe_c2pa.dll is present alongside Camera Raw.8bi in:
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats\

Please don’t move, replace, or download any files. I only need confirmation that the DLL is present.

I also noticed the log report DisableGPUInference.txt is present. There’s no need to change that for now; I’m noting it so the team has the complete configuration.

    Thanks,
    Anshul Saini

Windows 10 log reports Windows build 17763, which is an older Windows 10 release. Current Camera Raw versions require Windows 10 22H2.

I understand Adobe’s official support policy, but in practice, that’s not true. I understand the need to protect less technically experienced users and the company’s need to maintain certain guarantees, but ACR 18.4.1 runs perfectly on Windows 17763, without any issues.

    Your exact Windows 11 version/build.

I think the information above should make it clear that the OS version is not relevant to this issue. I understand your instructions script, but please look at problem wider - my testing confirms this.

While waiting for a fix for ACR versions 18.5 and later, I tested ~3 different Windows11 builds, ranging from around 8655 to 9445, currently running 9550.

I only need confirmation that the DLL is present.

Of course the DLLs are all there. I’m not an inexperienced user; I’m an experienced IT engineer, so this isn’t some trivial case of me accidentally deleting files.

I checked and reproduced the issue dozens of times while waiting for updates - 18.5, 18.6, 18.7. Since the issue remained unfixed, I decided to file a report.

Since I already attached the log from the latest ACR 18.7 version in my original post, there’s no point in repeating the same thing. Instead, I’m attaching the log from ACR 18.4.1, which is currently working correctly.

I also noticed the log report DisableGPUInference.txt is present. There’s no need to change that for now.

Yes, that file was present only on Windows 10; it wasn’t present on Windows 11. I deleted it during testing while investigating the cause, but that didn’t resolve the issue.
