Question

Launching ACR from Bridge doesn't OPEN to Photoshop (like it used to).

My workflow is to browse my camera files (raw) in Bridge, "Open with camera raw" them with ACR and do some editiing, and the press OPEN button to open the file in Photoshop. But for several weeks, maybe even months, when I press the OPEN button in ACR nothing happens. What uesed to happen was that Photoshop launched and the image was passed from ACR to Photoshop. Now I press DONE in ACR and then lanuch Photoshop manually, then from Bridge I select my file and "Open" from Bridge which in turn launches Photoshop and the launches ACR and then the OPEN button will pass the file to Photshop.

It is s sublte difference, but a built-in habit for me. If I "Open with camera raw" from Bridge then ACR is launched from Bridge and Photoshop is not launched, not resident in memory. If I "Open" from Bridge then Photoshop launches in the background and ACR is spawned from Photoshop.

Have I got this right? Anyone noticing this change? Did I do something stupid (wouldn't be the first time)?

I just checked an older version of Bridge (12.0.4.286) and it works as I was used to - "Open from camera" and OPEN works. Both Bridge 13.0.7.773 and 14..0.4.222 behave the same while 12.04.286 is what I was used to.

Thanks,
Peer

What happens if you just double-click in Bridge?

ACR can be hosted by either Photoshop or Bridge. It's Photoshop-hosted with double-click in Bridge. It sounds like it works from Photoshop, but not Bridge. In that case I'd reinstall Bridge.

I have 3 versions of Bridge installed: Adobe Bridge 2022, 2023 and 2024. 2023 and 2024 behave differently than 2022. The 2022 behavior is what I am familiar with and what I had expected. With the 2022 version, when browsing with bridge, if I "Open in Camera Raw..." an image, I can the press OPEN within ACR and Photoshop wil launch with thre image opened in Photoshop.

With 2023 and 2024 versions, if I "Open in Camera Raw..." from bridge, and then press OPEN within ACR, nothing happens.

I am aware that from any version of Bridge I could merely choose "Open" and Photoshop would launch and the ACR in turn would launch and open the file. The OPEN button in ACR works as expected - it passes the image fromACR to Photoshop.

Double-clicking a file in Bridge does the same thing as "Open".

My point is that something changed - not sure when - for Bridge 2023 and 2024.

The point is that right-click "Open in Camera Raw" launches ACR hosted by Bridge.

Double-clicking in Bridge launches ACR hosted by Photoshop.

They both send the file to Photoshop, of course, but in the first case ACR is running as a Bridge plugin, not a Photoshop plugin. That's why I'd start by reinstalling Bridge.
