Lightroom Camera RAW plug-in version 9.10

Hi there, I have the most recent versions of Lightroom 2015.10 / Photoshop 2017.1.0 and Camera RAW 9.10 installed but i am still getting this message when i edit images in Photoshop from Lightroom:

This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 9.10 for full compatibility

Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Glen

Correct answer JP Hess

The compatibility message you are getting is an error. It has been acknowledged by Adobe. The solution for the time being is to check the box to not show again and also choose the option to open anyway. When you do that everything will work as it should and the problem of the ever will be resolved in the next update.

I have the same problem, I think: impossible to import xxxx.r2w from my Panasonic GH5

  • Photoshop CC 2017.1.1 uses Camera raw 9.10.1.950
  • Lightroom CC 2015 uses Camera raw 9.0  !!

How to set Lightroom to use the right Camera raw ??

First of all, Lightroom itself does not use the camera raw plug-in. It is not part of the Lightroom program. When Lightroom indicates a certain version of Camera Raw, it is indicating which version is required to be fully compatible with Lightroom. All of the updating has to be done through the Creative Cloud application manager. You should be using Lightroom CC 2015.12. And Camera Raw should be at version 9.12. Camera Raw is used when you choose to edit images in Photoshop from Lightroom, and assists in the transfer between programs. If you don't have those versions installed on your computer then you are not up to date. If you cannot get the updates through the Creative Cloud application manager then perhaps you need to update the manager itself. Here is the link where you can download the most recent manager:

Thanks JimHess,

but after posting my request, I have checked that all of my apps were update to date (please see att.). When I install again Creative Cloud, it was unnecessary.

How to force the update of Lightroom, when Creative Cloud doesn't want to do it himself?

So you are saying that Photoshop itself will not open?

What I did not see in the reactions so far is the difference between RAW and JPG handling of Adobe. I experience that JPG pictures are not linked to proper profiles anyway. A JPG does not even link to a Canon EFS 55-250 or an EF 100-400 USM IS1. Seems like the camera raw is only linking to RAW pictures, and does not even facilitate the choice for manual correction of JPG to modern equipment.

I found myself setting a standard camera setting to JPG (without RAW) in Canon 80D and ended up in Adobe lightroom not even supporting anything close to the EF 100-400 or the EFS 55-250.

I get the impression this is a not-supported area in Adobe nowadays

You will find that most lens profiles are for raw images only. Lens profiles are format-specific.

I've downloaded and reinstalled the newest (9.10) Camera Raw three times now, and Lightroom 5.7.1 is still stuck on Camera Raw 8.7.1.

The update just won't get recognized by LR

Any ideas?

Lightroom has the ACR engine built into the application, it's totally independent of the ACR plugin for Photoshop. In short, Lightroom is updated by updating Lightroom, not by updating ACR.

The reason you see Camera Raw version under About Lightroom, is just to specify the version number of the camera raw engine used by the application. Lightroom 5.7 has the Camera Raw 8.7 engine built in.

Again - don't try to update ACR, it won't do anything for Lightroom. Update Lightroom. And ACR 9.10 does not apply to you under any circumstances, that's the equivalent for Lightroom CC and 6.

So, while waiting for this next update, I will not be able to use camera raw on files such as jpg, psd and tif files?

I'm not quite sure what motivated your question. The basic problem surrounding this message is that there is a version comparison logic in Lightroom to ensure that the version of Camera Raw matches the Camera Raw technology built into the version of Lightroom you are using. Apparently, in the latest version of Lightroom, that comparison logic isn't right. Lightroom isn't displaying the message correctly. If you are using the Creative Cloud versions of Lightroom and Photoshop/Camera Raw everything is going to work the way it should despite the fact that the message is being displayed. I don't know whether you are in that situation or if you are editing JPEG, TIF and PSD images and Camera Raw from Bridge and going directly from Bridge into Camera Raw. In either case, you can do that without any problem. The only reason people are seeing the message is because the comparison logic is wrong. Apparently, in some situations, users are not getting access to the Camera Raw filter that is accessible from Photoshop. It's a problem. If you are able to get into Camera Raw using any type of file format as you have done in the past then you can continue to do so just as you have done in the past and everything should work as it has done in the past. It's a little bump in the road for the time being. Will it be fixed? Yes. When? When Adobe is ready to fix it. When will that be? When Adobe is ready to fix it. Does anybody know when that will be? Yes. However, anyone who knows when that will be cannot say, and anyone who says really doesn't know.

Hi Jim,
What motivated me to ask? I can't get camera raw to come up for jpg, tiff, and psd files. Lightroom tells me to download camera raw 9.10, but my photoshop already has it as far as I can tell. Should I reload? I'm sorry, I'm a pretty good photographer, but I am clueless with software and could use guidance on Photoshop and Lightroom!
Some good tutorials might help..........
Thank You Jim!

I updated today Photoshop to newest version 2017.1.1 but the problem still exists. Which update fix this problem?

The next one, which hasn't been released yet. And I don't think it's Camera Raw that needs to be updated, I think it's Lightroom.

I'm also getting this error. I checked the box and the dialog still comes up. Is there a fix for this in the foreseeable future?
