Getting the "Merged results exceeds max size" message when combining two images from my Nikon D850. I don't know if it's relevant, but there was an update to Photoshop this morning.

Hi, getting exactly the same problem again with the latest Photoshop/ACR updates. Never found a solution in the past. Guess I'll have to wait until the next update when Adobe fix the bug without informing anyone.

Those two images are totally unrelated to each other. I don't know what you expected to achieve here...?

They are related, just the exposure is different. One is of the field and hills, the other is the hills, trees and sky. If they were "totally unrelated to each other" you would get a "not enough matching source images to merge."
I hop that helps you.

Sounds like you're not hitting such a limit, so the next step is resetting the Camera Raw preferences:
Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS*) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

*On Ventura, it is now called "Settings".
