NEF takes 20-30 sec to open

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

since a few weeks a Nikon D750 NEF takes 20-30 sec to open in Camera Raw.

Jpg directly into Photoshop works fine w/o delay.

Are there any recommendations how to get it fast again?

Details:

Windows 11 is latest, Photoshop and Camera Raw are latest.

Camera Raw adjustments reset- no change.

The Camera Raw cache path is set to the SSD M.2, but almost no difference when routed to a really slow Backup HDD.

Hardware- not latest, but sufficient for our amateur purpose “up to now”:

AMD 3700X, 32GB RAM, SSD M.2, Graphics Nvidia GT740, 1x HD Monitor

Graphics driver is latest (03-2023).

 

In General:

I am not complaining here about Adobes support strategy although there is a lot to complain from my point of view. Most preferred language: “German”, but using it here would result in nobody reading it- so this is done on my fathers behalf.

Lets start here and see if it helps. Try resetting the Camera Raw preferences:
Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS*) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

Hello,

resetting the camera raw settings/Preferences was one of our first steps- it does not change anything.

(mentioned in my text above, maybe with not the correct english words since the program language is german).

 

I assume now, the graphics card is not sufficient anymore since the last updates.

Signs:

-We had to set "GPU Mode pre 2016" to avoid a white flickering screen with no pictures shown anymore.

-Camera Raw performance switched from "Auto" to "user defined" does not permit to tick the box "use GPU for file opening" 

- GPU-Mode in Photoshop only shows "software"

 

The next step will be to update to a more recent graphics card.

Ladies and Gents,

 

the new graphics card is installed (Nvidia Geforce 3050), the improvement is "zero".

Camera Raw recognizes the card in the right way, NEF's and CR2's still take 30-40 sec to open.

Are there any recommendations?
