Oh no, it has gone again!

A week or so ago, after losing use of CR following that crass update, I followed Adobe's advice to get Camera Raw working again by changing the psp ending on Photoshop to .old. Why I had to do that was a complete mystery, but it worked for a few days, but now when I try to open an ORF file it just comes up a mass of diagonal lines. I'm a photogtrapher, not a computer geek. Why am I having to put up with this?

Anyone know what the real fix is?
