Older images work with newest Camera Raw?

I cannot use newest camera raw with old images; reverts to older version of CR. Why?  Is it not possible?

If the old images were processed in an old version of camera raw, they might have an older process version, and some features, like for instance Texture will not be visible.

Go to the calibration tab to update the image to the latest process version, and the missing features will become visible.
