Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

Tried this new (to me!) version of the people removal in LRC today. I liked the older version where you had to select the people to remove. I thought it usually worked well, although sometimes the people were replaced with something else. This automatic version failed to remove some of the people The ones it did remove, were removed well. All of the people were at a considerable distance in the Namibian landscape of Dead Vlei in Sossusvlei.

If you are trying to remove distracting people, then why does it add a different person? That doesn't work.
And why can't you edit the area it selects?
And why can't you choose more than once?
I go back to spot removal most the time.

LO trovo fantastico , solo che a volte evidenzia una sola persona e magari ce ne sono tre , sarebbe opportuno che si avesse la possibilità di scegliere le persona da eliminare . Comunque sempre avanti .

We should be able to edit/tweek the auto mask. Because it often misses in the borders and i just want to remove the mask on those areas.

This was what I got after removing all background tourists.

Lightroom classic - two very obvious people on a trail.  The tool replaced them with a buffalo.
undo, repeat - buffalo.

undo, repeat - buffalo.
decide the people are not so bad... and there are no buffalo in Mount Rainier NP, afaik.

Sometimes this works perfectly in removing all people. Other times it creates a horrible image, which seems to be a composite of those removed. Ugly.

HIya Great you have added this feature - sadly though I have a ghost figure now. WHich given its an abandoned lonely croft house on a Scottish moor is evocative but not helpful!

THIS DOES NOT WORK!
It took away the person to add a guy that I did not even know LOL!

I used the feature on several images taken at a tourist attraction with quite a few people moving about in each one, in every example the effect was fantastic with everyone highlighted vanishing perfectly. The only point I would make is that there is a note that if there are items you do not want removed they can be deleted before the action is taken but no indication that if there are people or items that you want to add how that can be done.
