P: Generative Remove Feedback (Camera Raw)

This post applies to Camera Raw.
Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Ecosystem feedback can be found here.
Previous Early Access Feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

As Generative AI analyzes portions of the image that have been cropped out, Camera Raw has the ability to toggle Show Uncropped Image is now available to guide you in your Generative Remove selection.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Adobe Photoshop (2024) and its Adobe Camera Raw (17.3) has become so clunky with so much “cool-but-useless” features, the software has become almost unusable. Yes, it's my PC's getting old, but what used to be done on CS5 for a fraction of processing power and within seconds on multiple DNG files, for a simple task of removing a spot, now takes minutes because it consumes so much RAM memory. Entire editing on hundreds of DNG files have become hours of work, rather than a 10-minute job. I'm sure quality is better and smarter, but it's becoming no longer economical.  I suggest bringing CS5 back or the 2017 version was also worked well.

It turns out, McAfee anti-virus software was slowing down the software. Uninstalling and removing McAfee has drastically improved the Adobe Photoshop/ACR performance.

Feedback: Generative Remove must respect mask boundaries strictly

Camera Raw version: 18.2.1 (via Bridge)

Since version 17.5, Generative Remove has been modifying pixels outside the painted mask. Version 17.3.1 worked perfectly—changes were confined to the selected area only.

I relied on 17.3.1 to maintain this behavior, but as of March 9, 2026, the Generative AI server now rejects requests from 17.3.1, displaying a "Something went wrong" error. This effectively forces an upgrade to versions where the mask-boundary issue exists.

For professional retouching (portraits, products), unpredictable changes to eyes, hair, and skin outside the mask make this tool unusable. I strongly request:

  1. A "Strict Mask" option that guarantees zero modification outside the painted area
  2. Restoration of the 17.3.1-era behavior as the default

This was my most-used feature in Camera Raw. Please prioritize this fix. Thank you.

I find that the AI remove tool rarely works.  I almost always get an error that the action cannot be completed at this time and to try again later.  Very frustrating.  It’s rarely ever available to use.

Works pretty good. BUT, in the reflection section it also needs to be able to detect eyeglasses as part for the reflections. Also when using the generative fill to remove reflections in eyeglasses it needs to keep the contours of the face a little closer to original rather than adding shadow or altering eyebrows.

Worthless in my opinion. A waste of time. Much better to avoid removal operations in ACR and just move to PS. The fakey stuff doesn't add to the quality work that can be produced through ACR without it and Photoshop.

An image showing vehicle behind a raised cricket bat with trees further background is not removed. Attached is the original Raw image with the result of the Remove action using AI.  further attempts produced similar results with different vehicles being generated.

I think that detect objects in ACR should be followed by a masking option in order to refine the removal

Hi! When I use the Remove tool (Generative AI) in Camera Raw it works very good, but no with lights. I believe that it make sense if the selection is recognizing that from that source-point of light, it will affect the edge of the selection, but it would be helpful that at least keep the same reflection of light, but not that point where the light is coming from. Sorry my english, I hope this is understandable and helpful!

Tested on e-commerce PDP images, but it totally fails in the reconstruction of the fine detailed micro-textures of the garments. It requires significant manual effort to recover the micro-texture. This same issue happens in the new Remove Tool in PS as well. Not fit for post-production usage. Not ready yet for professional usage.
