P: Generative Remove Feedback (Camera Raw)

This post applies to Camera Raw.
Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Ecosystem feedback can be found here.
Previous Early Access Feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

As Generative AI analyzes portions of the image that have been cropped out, Camera Raw has the ability to toggle Show Uncropped Image is now available to guide you in your Generative Remove selection.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

I’m very impressed with the remove tool, I’ve used it add & subtract and have found it a very useful tool even when it’s a very complex removal

It seems to me that AI itself is causing most of the issues and i rarely use it - it would be extremely nice to just have a setting that disables AI completely so that it doesn’t run in the background. Right now it just seems to interfere without any use and my MacBook Pro doesn’t seem to be very fond of it. I don’t need it for 99% of my work and like people here said before: it just slows things down without any benefit.

For some reason, since I updated the Camera Raw, when I select a mask to remove something with the Generative AI, everything is paused and when is back again the mask is a straight line! I use it on 2 mini macs and this is happening to both.

It’s even worse: it freezes and “uses AI tool” (it lists it in the AI Status List) even if I want to remove something WITHOUT AI or just want to mask something manually.

Hi there,

I used to be able to use the remove tool and now it seems to be impossible to get it to work. I get a message saying internet issues regardless or what I am connected to. If I open in photoshop and try the generative tool there, it works no problem.

Is there a way to fix this?

你好,

我以前能用删除工具,但现在似乎根本无法让它工作。无论我连接什么设备,都会收到一条说网络问题的消息。如果我在Photoshop里打开并尝试生成工具,它完全没问题。

有没有办法解决这个问题?

In CR 18.3 [w/ mid-release patch to solve the freezing issue and also in prior version] a generative AI removal was applied to a small area in a lower corner though the rendered result included a contrast increase to the overall image which may also include increased chromatic noise – perhaps the noise is due to the increased contrast.  This modification carries into PS once the update in CR is accepted. Not a desirable result of course.

After the most recent upgrade on Camera Raw, using the remove tool/Generative remove has been extremely, slowing down my ability to edit - having to reboot my MAC with no improvement.  Even cropping my image seems to have lag.

Also, when I try to make the same changes to several images using the Masking tool all at once, my MAC freezes and i have to reboot my computer - happens all the time.

Yeah, I’ve noticed this too. If I’m in Camera Raw and the remove took to manually delete things like dust, etc, my Mac slows to a crawl, and I can hear the fan going at full speed. I’ve got a very new, completely loaded Mac Mini, so this shouldn’t be happening. It’s happened before with versions of PS Beta, and we’re back to the bad old days.

I have just installed the latest Camera Raw 18.3 on both my Mac Studio & Mac Book Air and find the remove tool virtually unusable. Its slow and does not perform in real time.

Hi,

I've just installed Camera Raw 18.3 on my MacBook Air M1, macOS 26.4.1 and the tool “Remove” is unusable: extremely slow, looks stuck, then I get the result, after 15-20 secs, without control of what area I’m applying it (no feedback on the screen).

I’ve tried to reboot the Mac twice, no other apps running (except Bridge). Nothing changed.

Thanks

Update: in general Camera Raw il slow: I opened 5 files together (usually I can open up to 15-18 files without any problems) and when I switch from one to another by clicking on the thumbnail, the main image takes 4-5 seconds to refresh and visualize the new selected file.

I also deleted the CR cache. Nothing has changed.

Thanks
