.RAF file missing from external drive after camera raw "done"

I keep pics on external; don't load ALL automatically into LR classic.  Browse, select, open in Camera Raw, re-save in P-shop as the same file number with "A" and as TIFF  BACK into same folder on external with original.  So it sits right next to it when I want to reopen and edit.  Did not know that in Camera Raw, if I hit "done", nstead of "open", or "cancel", it would close and now I can't find the ORIGINAL file on the external.  Just missing.  ??????  I dunno.  Fortunately, I DO have a second backup of this file on laptop.  But what hapenned?  The original files all live on that external drive; now, where is this one?  If I just said "done"...wouldnt it just close the file and not delete it from it's source?  I sure don't get it.  There's also no XMP of this (is this some Fuji thing?).  First time working with RAF.s.   Usually I never even see those xmp files listed; and now, just several show up with the originals when searching the folder.  I'm confused.  Where is that file?  Ugh.  thanks.
