Reverting file size changes from enhance?

In ACR 17.4, when an enhance feature (denoise, raw detail, super resolution) is applied, the file size increases which is expected. However when the enhance feature is later unchecked, the file size stays the same and does not return to the original file size. Is this expected? This seems wasteful for storage space.

I agree! More than doubled a DJI DNG Raw file from 39mb to 90mb! What's up with this Adobe? Bring back the other version of creating the larger file to make a bigger final image, then being able to delete it while the original file keeps all its edits intact. . .
