Question

Which sliders are affected by Auto in Camera Raw?

Hello all,

I'm quite new to the world of Camera Raw and Photoshop, and have looked online for the answer to my question without success.

When I open a RAW (.ORF) file in Camera Raw I typically start off with the Auto button, but I often find the suggested Exposure isn't correct (which is easy to fix) but sometimes I find the colours have changed and look a bit too vivid or have a colour cast making the image look unrealistic.  (I'm editing bird photos so I'm looking for something that accurately reflects what I saw with my eyes.)

I can see that the Auto button changes the following:

Light> Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks

Color> Vibrance, Saturation

Is this the complete list, or does the Auto button change anything else behind the scenes?

Thanks.

I think you have it there.

If you don't like Auto results and find that you are frequently applying the same settings, then creating your own presets might be the way to go especially if you don't wish to devote much time to editing each image from scratch. Copying and pasting settings from one image to similar images is also worth a look at.

Thanks - I'll have a look into that.
