Why is camera raw so slow that it feels like its frozen

Every time I try to edit raw NEF files from my Nikon camera, camera raw feels unusable. It is so slow and feels like it is going crash or freeze.

Looking at other users, these issues are continuous, going back 6 years plus.

I was getting so frustrated that I spent a lot of money on a new PC. and its no better.
