Zoom tool issue ACR 15.0

I’m experiencing an anomalous behaviour with the zoom tool in the latest ACR 15.0 update (Mac user, Monterey):

1. if I click once to zoom in a specific area of the image the zoom does not reach the 100% as set in the preferences but sticks to the last zoom level used

2. if I zoom further using the trackpad the zoom moves automatically to a completely different area

The only way to zoom in a specific area seems to be only the cmd/ctrl shortcut to activate the selection box. Using just two fingers on the trackpad (or simply drawing the box without shortcuts as it was possible until few years ago) is so much faster.

I know I could use the Lightroom style zoom, but I can’t see why I have to constantly change my habits, so the question is: is it a bug? Does anyone have the same problems?

Not the case on this end (identical versions of both), it always zooms as set in preference (100%) and no, it isn't set for LR zoom:

Try resetting the Camera Raw preferences:
Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"
