Camera Won't Open

Hi... I'm just now attempting to run some tests with v 3.4.0.131 and the camera is failing to open/become active.

I'm just getting a 'waiting for camera' message in the centre of the camera/mic panel and nothing else. I've tried a couple of relaunches and have checked that the cam isn't being used by another app.

Steps to reproduce:
    1. Launch app.
 
Result: 'waiting for camera' message appears - camera remains inactive.
Expected: camera should become active.
 
System info
    Application: Character Animator (Beta) v3.4.0.131
    OS: macOS v10.15.6, RAM: 40.00 GB, CPUs (logical): 8

Okay... problem solved (almost entirely 😁).

I've discovered that each time it's launched, Ch Beta is defaulting to CamTwist rather than FaceTime HD Camera (Built-in).

A quick swap to the latter, via the dropdown, and everything's fine. It'd be cool not to have to do that each time but it's certainly not a deal-breaker 😊

That's great to hear you got it working!

 

Ch should be saving your camera selection when you exit the app normally.  It should be restoring your previous camera selection at startup.

 

As a side note:  Be aware that virtual camera apps like CamTwist rely on undocumented operating system hacks.  These apps can sometimes cause trouble for normal camera operations.

    Sorry to hear you are having trouble!

     

    Have you granted permission to Character Animator in your Mac's preferences?

    Go to: System Preferences ...  > Security & Privacy > Camera

    Please make sure that Adobe Character Animator is checked there.

    And yep, I've doubled-checked and system prefs for camera permission is granted - both for Ch 2020 and Ch Beta. 

    Ch 2020 camera works fine. It's only Ch Beta that's experiencing the issue.
