Question

export sequence to match AE procedure

For project tracking purposes, I would like to see ChA export frames like AE does with this template:  fileName_.[#####].fileType  where the frame number string [#####] is set by the user.  If there is a way to do this already, please let me know.

I think both AE (Render Queue) and CH (Export -> "PNG sequence and Wave") use a start frame number of the current workarea for [####].
But I see AE has the Output Module options where I can set "Starting #" of sequence. Do you mean that option for CH?
If so, I don't think there is no option in CH or AME (via Dynamiclink). I will file as a feature request.

Yes, please file a feature request.  In a studio that uses multiple animation tools, it's necessary to be able to format the output in very specific ways.  Such as: project_comp_pass_version#_take#.[#####}.filetype.  We can do this in Maya, C4D, AE, Nuke and we want to be able to do that with Character Animator. Having an output template enables the project management software to search the strings to find the file we're looking for for review or archive.

Thanks for your help.
