i thought of the where but the thing is you could only use where in the query right? and for the query i need to pull all the questions from the database but its in the display that i have to select which question gets posted at its certain location. so if i used
<cfquery name="blah" datasource="blahblah">
select question
from mydata
where blah = blah

as you know that wont work very well cause it will only get me that one question, i need to pull all my questions, its in the output that i have to be selective where each question im pulling from the database is getting shown on the webpage.

You can select a certain row from a db if the db has that functionality. As BKBK said, you would do it in the where clause of your query.

But apparently your original question didn't really reflect what you want to do. In fact, neither does your subsequent post (or maybe I'm just dense). Perhaps a reading of the cfquery portion of the cfml reference manual is in order. One of the variables might be just what you are looking for.

use a where-clause

How this is done depends on the database.
