Question

After upgrade from MX7 to CF 9 html pages no longer display

Yesterday I upgraded Coldfusion on our production web server from version 7 to 9.  I recreated our datasources, reestablished all the setting etc.  Our website consists of both .cfm web pages and .aspx pages that come from an Ektron CMS, as well as a few scattered .htm and .html pages.  Our IIS is v. 6.0 and our server is Windows Server 2003 64bit $2 SP2.

Our .cfm and .aspx pages work great, but none of our .htm or .html pages will display.  I'm assuming that it has something to do with changes made to the IIS when installing Coldfusion 9 but I don't know what, where, or how to fix it.  Has anyone run into this problem before?  Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Christina

Christina, there can be any number of possible explanations. I'll offer one quick one that worked for a client of mine last week who had the same problem (cfm pages worked, htm ages did not). After a bit of exploration to find an explanation, I proposed it may be quicker to just try creating a new site in IIS. She did that, and it just worked. She then just swapped out the IP address/port/host header info (if you know what I mean) from the old site to the new one, and was very happy to be able to proceed.

Sometimes the metabase in IIS gets a bit funky, and it may be easier just to go along to get along.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you Charlie.

In going through the properties for the website in IIS and looking at the extensions, we found that at some point .htm and .html pages had been set to display as .aspx.  However in the upgrade, Coldfusion added a 'wildcard' to those extensions using Coldfusion 9.  We simply deleted those extensions (to match our development server, which did not have entries for them) and that solved the problem.  In other words, I think the website was confused.

Yes, we do, more times than not, see some issues like these as soon as you upgrade ColdFusion. I am sure that it must be some minor adjustments which can be corrected when you can find what the problem is!  In the meanwhile, it’ll be a good idea to try out what has been suggested here especially since it was a similar problem and could be solved without any difficulty!! Hope it works for you too!!
