CF 9 Win 7 Installation Problem

I am trying to install Coldfusion 9, Developer Edition, so that I can work on Coldfusion applications through Dreamweaver.  I have downloaded the file coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.  After "Install Anywhere" runs, I have selected most of the default components for the Built-in web server, and "Enable RDS."  The installation process hangs without crashing at "Installing ... Install Merge Module (Build Time): CFDotNet_64.iam.zip"  I have downloaded the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite 5, but it is not running during the installation.  I also have Norton 360, but I have disabled the firewall during the installation.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both ColdFusion and the Adobe Creative suite, but this problem recurs.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium, "System Type, 64 bit operating system", and no other systems connected to this computer.

Thanks much to the three of you.

As I said, the installer ran all night and did not complete.  I did a force quit, and restarted the computer.  I opened the ColdFusion Administrator, which seemed to work properly.  I have been able to verify the test databases from within the ColdFusion installation.  Also, I can use "Live View" on DreamWeaver to view ColdFusion pages.

I don't know why the "MergeModule" never installed properly.

I did not specifically install the ColdFusion module as the Administrator, however, I am the only user and I have administrator privileges

Finally, it is likely that the .NET subcomponents are not installed.  That is OK; I am not testing .NET sites

Thank you all once again.  Wish me luck as I try to connect to a MS Access database.

I have the same problem... I don't understand why adobe can't even make a simple installer. I tried everything, Coldfusion install 9 stops at: Installing Meger Module.

It makes coldfusion look bad, specially if you are developer and you just want to try out coldfusion... I might just keep using PHP instead. I don't think I had this kinds of issues installing a local tesing eviroment.

too bad for adobe... they keep making it difficult for developers to install coldfusion, and this language will be dead in the next 5 years.

Really?  Everything?  What did you actually try.  Other than hyperbole, I mean?

    It makes coldfusion look bad,

No, it doesn't.  Really?... It just makes you look bad. The vast majority of everyone else who have tried to install CF in your environment have succeeded.  This is why these forums are not inundated with people posting "wah... won't install...".  There's a couple, sure.  But that's par for the course: systems have idiosyncracies that cannot be anticipated, and sometimes installs will fail.  This is just how sh!t works in IT.  If you're not used to that... like I said: it makes you look bad.

If you want help: ask.  But stop yer whining.

Besides what the other guys have noted, I'll ask whether you really want to bother with the .NET integration, since that's at the heart of the error you mentioned. Are you doing .NET development, such that you want to call .NET components from within CFML? If not, then I wonder if things may go smoother if you chose not included that option during installation. That said, it certainly should work and I've not heard it failing like this before. Just a thought if it may help you get over the hump.

Make sure you're running the installer as an administrator.

There should be an installation log created by the ColdFusion installer.  Examining that log could be very fruitfull.

Also, as well as your Norton, make sure windows itself it not blocking up the works with it's firewall or other security features.

As I explain below; even though the installation hung up as it was installing the merge module, the most important elements of the ColdFusion seem to work.  I am going to try to connect to an MS Access database.  I understand that this is problematic, and I am going to take the advice given at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/142416?decorator=print&displayFullThread=true
