Question
CF Hosting - Viability and Affordability
I'm looking for feedback about the viability of shared CF8
hosting. I've done research on the web and in these forums about
what the options are. My concerns are about cost and logistics.
A client and I are trying to decide between CF8 and .NET for a project. (Let's not get into the pros and cons of each. I know both, and the client and I are beyond that point.)
Our final concern is shared hosting for CF8 with MS SQL Server or MySQL.
With .Net, there's a whole universe of shared-hosting options for less than $25-30/month.
With CF8, there are noticeably less in that price range. Plus, some aren't good for us due to unsupported tags.
My client's concern (and I agree) is, with realtively so few CF8 options, we could be stuck in the future if one host goes out of business, another takes a downturn in service, one decides to raise its rates, etc. We're not saying this stuff happens all the time, but there have been plenty of times over the years a good provider goes bad due to growing too much, loss of key personnel, things like that.
How would you respond this concern? To both a client, and to me (a colleague). I've only used CF for corporate clients or clients with dedicated servers. I don't really know the track record of developing CF (particularly CF8) for a client who only needs shared hosting.
Thank you.
Larry
