CF vs Joomla CMS

Hi.

Noob, sorry!

Currently I have been running joomla 1.5 on our website, http://www.4yacht.com

We are now searching for alternative solutions to better our user experiences. We find we can do a lot with the current CMS, however we like the flexability on CF in regards to the op system.

Do you feel that CF might be a better solution for us?

Thanks

If the users have not Internet and Information system background,

    forget Joomla.

Make your own CMS with CF,

CF is so easy and powerfull to build any system you want.

Then you can customize your CMS to the user level.

I have seen so many Joomla users, getting mad with the administration ...

This is my strategy, I make my own CMS and other packages with CF,

then you have the full control on fonctionnalities to adapt them to customers levels.

    And they are so happy.

    Pierre.

Thanks to all for the helpful answers, I appreciate it. Our site used to be in CF and we lost our person who was able to update. Your right CF has many possiblities and is more flexible as to just about everything.

Since we started this thread we now have replaced her with a new in house person who can do both, thank god! At least I dont have to go out and search for answers for the boss anymore :-)

    Thanks again to all

The other posters are all right on target here. The proper comparison is with other CMS products. You should let that guide your choice of server environments, etc. If you find a CMS that you prefer to Joomla, get that CMS (assuming you can afford it) and use whatever it relies upon.

If you just want to be able to build custom applications that would run in parallel to your CMS, you can certainly use both ColdFusion and PHP.

Well, you don't have a very fair comparison there, it is rather apples to orange juice.

Or, in a more geek language. You are basically asking, "We have enjoyed using zzzz Word Processor, but we would like to do more, would using C++ be a better solution".  I.E. One is a tool created to do a job, the other is a language to create such tools and many others.

If you want to start creating your own web application tools, CF is a very good choice that is very popular on these forums.  If you want to create a tool to compete with one as large and fully developed as I presume Joomla is, that would probably be a very large project.

There are CF CMS systems (is Joomla one, I don't know what it is based on).

There is also a lot that one can do with CF that is not Content Management.

Message was edited by: ilssac  Some internet searching indicates that Joomla seems to be based on PHP.  So that would be the equivalent comparison, PHP versus CF (which can be a very heated comparison indeed).

Another idea is that one probably does not need to replace Joomla, but one could rather build additional functionality with CF around the PHP|Joomla tool.  CF is very friendly and does not mind sharing the work with the other web application technologies.

You want to look specifically at CF CMS products. There are both commercial

and open source options. Based on your use of Joomla you should probably

take a look at Mura CMS for CF.

<http://www.getmura.com/>Full disclosure, I used to work for a commercial CF

    CMS called Savvy Content Manager.

Thanks to both of the replies. I think there may be more opportunities with CF. We still need to explore more.
