CF10 update 12 application requires me to log in as root

We have CF10 isntalled as a j2ee installation on a web logic cluster on enterprise class servers.  I was able to apply CF10 mandatory updates

But when I try to install update 12 or update 13, it gives me a message which suggests that I need to be logged in as root on servers controlled by unix admins. Logging in as root to appy patches/updates is not an option in our enterprise.
