Question

CF8 and Flex3

I am interested in developing a Flex3 (AIR) application with a CF backend. I have a good bit of experience with Flash but none with Flex or CF.

My development computer is an intel Mac Pro running 10.4.11. I have Apache 1.3, PHP 5, and MySQL 5
The production server (which is on our network) will likely be running Linux (RH).

My Questions are:
1. What problems am I going to run into developing on a Mac. (ie: Broken functionality between Dream Weaver - CF)
2. What problems will I have when I go to transfer my files to the production server
3. Is this the way you would do it - Flex3 AIR or Web with CF BackEnd. (I am working alone and it's a big project so the more integration and automation I can get, the better).
4. Any other advice or ideas

The application is a job tracking board. There are about 10 clients creating, modifying and accessing data so not much in the way of a heavy load. Our present board (which I built from Flash 4) has about 35,000 posts after 3 years.

Thanks for your help.

This will be my first Mac experience but I have worked on *nix system for years and I hope that would make me a bit comfortable.

    Let us see ... :)

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know. Mac is a great platform, I am excited to see all the new development for them.

Also, for anyone else looking for a very good explanation on Cold Fusion including installation, checkout the Free Sample Videos on Lynda.com. I am almost tempted to purchase the rest of them but I don't see any reference to working with Flex.

    cheers,

I know "tons" of CF developer who works on Mac and love it!

I have also plan to get a Mac for my next notebook. :)

If you are referring CF developer edition, yes it is free for up to 3 IP call in a network. The license you will have on your deployment server is not related with your development environment. It must have its own license and I think with a standard edition of CF you can do what you want for a normal web deployment.

We have different kinds of projects here and standard edition of CF is mostly enough for our projects.

I think this would be a good starting point.

    Thanks,

I have read this article. I was a little concerned though having read other posts about problems working with Mac including broken functionality between DW and CF on Mac.

EDIT: ACTUALLY I JUST NOTICED - Looks like there is a Free Developer Edition.
Also the "Standard Edition" is for one server. So how does that work in my case where I develope on the Mac and then will move it to the Linux production server, that makes 2 Servers. One for developing and one for the application to run on when it's finally deployed. The enterprise edition is out of our budget and far more than we need.

    Thanks for enlightening me
